BLOOD RUNS DEEP on METALKAOZ!

Another review of our album INTO THE VOID!

I don’t think there are many active bands with a sweet tooth for Depressive Metal in the ballpark of TYPE O NEGATIVE (you know, the so-called Doom/Death Metal during the 90s) and this is the bitter truth. Luckily, for all the children with TYPE O blood still running inside their veins, Switzerland’s BLOOD RUNS DEEP release their sophomore offering, “Into The Void”, right after their European tour with the genre’s experts A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH, having in-store ten bleak, down-tempo, addictive tunes that wait to fall upon your ears like the darkest haze and lead you to the band’s lethargic scenery.

I have to admit I hadn’t the chance to check BLOOD RUNS DEEP’s debut “These Thoughts About Suicide”, released in 2009, but I’m glad I did listen to “Into The Void”; this album is filled with soulful tracks, paying respect successfully to the Green Man’s legacy. The guitars are very slow and melodic with a few solos and leading parts, while the keyboards underline in any given chance the depressive atmosphere of the entire album, having bassist/vocalist Stefan Vida in the middle of all who is almost-spitting the pessimistic lyrics at ease.“Nothing Ever Cured” seems to be the most fitting track to raise the curtain into BLOOD RUNS DEEP’s melancholic scenery, while the numbing intro of “Tomorrow” passes the baton to a super-Doomy melody that will sticks inside your brain for days. Again, the keyboards are beautifully placed, enhancing the entire result with love and devotion, stealing some of the limelight from the guitars. Tracks like “The Inner Gods” or “Lullaby” showcase the band’s aggression to the max, placing the guitars in the driver’s seat as Stefan’s voice sounds less nasal and feistier; and this is something I prefer the most. If I had to pick one or two tracks as my favorites, I’d go with “Fading Away” and“Never Let Me Down”, since they both are the most complete compositions placing all the instruments at the same level.

Listening to “Into The Void” again and again, I’m almost certain that we’ll deal with really exciting stuff from these guys in the near future. It’s really optimistic (what an unfitting word for this album presentation!) watching a band developing its sound by digesting the ol’ good values of the past and turn ‘em into something inspiring and fresh. In other words this is highly recommended to all the TYPE O NEGATIVE /A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH fanatics out there.

7/10!!
